Charlie Lanier has been with the firm since 1987 and has devoted his career to the defense of firm clients in a variety of industries and practices.  Over the course of his career, he has litigated matters for his clients in virtually all areas of civil litigation including class actions, construction, commercial disputes, products liability, maritime, transportation, health care liability, toxic exposure and environmental liability, insurance coverage, employment discrimination, workers’ compensation, and all forms of casualty litigation.  He has tried and argued cases in state and federal district and appellate courts throughout Louisiana, including the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Following Hurricane Katrina, Charlie’s practice primarily focused on construction defect matters.  To that end, he was involved in one of the largest dollar value cases in United States history successfully defending a municipality and defeating class certification in a suit relating to alleged defective design, construction, maintenance and operation of drainage and flood protection structures.

His practice involves complex class action and commercial litigation matters.  Matters include representation of product manufacturers in product defect cases in commercial and offshore settings, as well as various contract disputes in commercial construction projects. Charlie handles a variety of matters for corporate clients, both in a general counsel role and in defense of specific matters relating to fleet vehicles and other personal injury, property damage, and casualty matters.

Mr. Lanier is active in the community. He has served on the boards of Metairie Park Country Day School, Choice Foundation Endowment Fund (which supports local public charter schools), STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading-which targets at risk 2nd grade readers), the Shakespeare Festival at Tulane (past board President), and for a number of years volunteered as a coach at a local NORD playground.
